4 Star Review Whirlpool Water Filter - 4396841

Strengths:

easy install

Weaknesses:

price is high if you don't buy online; don't really seem to last too long

Posted Apr 2, 2007 - These filters are very easy to install, just make sure you push it in until it locks in place. I looked at Loewe's and it was $39.99 plus tax. I bought one online for $30 including shipping and no tax. They don't seem to last too long. I've had my current one for about two months and it's already down to 72% of its life. I wonder whether that's a function of the amount of water flowing through it or the amount of solids it has collected. If you want the filtered water and ice, you really don't have a choice but to pay for the filter.

4 Star Review Easy replacement

Strengths:

Push-button eject, front grille access

Weaknesses:

Old filter drips when ejected, must get air out of system

Posted Mar 27, 2007 - Easy to replace - the cap cover on the original / factory filter was broken, but was replaced under warranty from manufacturer. Advice: have a gallon pitcher or bucket close by after replacing; you need to run the water from the dispenser for about 4 minutes to get all of the air out of the lines. If you don't do this, the first time someone gets water it will continue to run until the air gets past the valve, which could be a few glasses worth - found out from experience! Otherwise, this filter cleans out taste and odor, and we have some funky water in our cit see more
