This mixer has 10 speeds and comes with various attachments for mixing or beating. If mixes have a moderate amount of moisture, the beating tool works fine. However, for relatively dry mixes such as high flour content or bread mixes, my favorite is the flat attachment which is actually made of ceramic and looks like a flat triangular frame with some lines running through. I usually start off with a slow speed (one, two or three) for a few minutes and gradually ratchet it up. I have found that makes a really good mix. Another comment I have is that the unit is really, really heavy. I think this is purposely weighted as such so that when it does run full speed, it does not wobble and shake and perhaps even tap dance across the surface. It is a piece of appliance you want to find a permanent spot for and not move it around too much. One point to note is that at higher speeds it can be very noisy such that normal conversation is difficult.

Very good mixer

Strengths: Fast, convenient and easy clean.

Weakness: Sometime the bowl is hard to be removed.

My wife likes this mixer very much. She was encouraged by this powerful machine. We have home-made pasta, pizza and pie everyday. Especially, it can also make oriental food, such as steam buns, dumplings and many more.

Strengths: This is a beautiful machine - (I purchased the chrome one). It works wonderfully. While some say it is too loud, I don't find the sound level objectionable.

Weakness: It is heavy. I have the counter space to let it set out, which I think is a must unless you have a strong arm around to help you set it up.

This is not a toy. It is a serious piece of equipment that can be useful for so many things. This week was the first of many bake sales I am to participate in, and it helped me expedite the preparation of the cakes, pies, and cookies. I am familiar with fine machinery, and this is well made. It is nothing like the flimsy hand held types or cheaper stand mixers. I could have bought it for $50 less if I had wanted white, but I decided to get something that would look modern and match my kitchen. Thus the chrome. I'm a happy camper!

The Kitchenaid Artisan stand mixer has a powerful 325 watt motor that supplies constant power even when mixing heavy cookie dough. This countertop appliance comes with 10 speeds, which allow you to do everything from stirring to whipping.

Kitchenaid mixers come with a dough hook, wire whip and burnished flat beater. The dough hook is used for breads, buns, rolls, and coffee cakes where as the wire whip can be used for whipping eggs, heavy cream, sponge cakes and angle cakes. The flat beater is used for all other mixing jobs including cookies, biscuits, cakes, pastries, mashed potatoes, and quick breads.

I can't live without my KitchenAid. Start with the best and you will never have to buy another stand mixer.

KitchenAid has an Ebay store where they sell refurbished and many new items. I have wanted one of these mixers _forever_, but the price was just to prohibitive. Through the Ebay store I got a brand new mixer in discontinued color (plum) with 1 year warranty (I think the refurbished ones have month warranty) for $175 + $30 shipping. Plus I had a $10 coupon from Ebay and found a $30 rebate, so for...

Plus I had a $10 coupon from Ebay and found a $30 rebate, so for $165 I have the mixer of my dreams and I'm loving it. It's everything I thought it would be. It makes my multiple batches of cookies and shortbread for easter, christmas, birthday,valentine, etc sending a snap. Halves the time I used to spend doing this.
