Description
More is more sometimes, at least in the world of small appliances. KitchenAid has introduced a new member of the stand mixer family, known as the Artisan mixer. It has a tilting head, like the KSM90, but it has a larger 5 qt. capacity bowl. It also gives you more oomph, as in 325 watts of cookie dough busting power. What's not to love? If you've been considering a stand mixer, this may be the perfect "starter model" for you.

Strengths: Tilt-head, powerful motor, locking bowl design, portable.
Weakness: Limited capacity for larger jobs (expected), and plastic gear-housing!
For small jobs, this mixer is great! Cookies, cakes, and various other desserts you'll bake with ease. If you're a bread-baker, you may want to upgrade into the Professional model (which I also have and reviewed) as this one's motor can overheat with constant use. There's also the plastic gear-housing. Sure, the gears are metal, but the housing can crack due to heat and or other stresses thus...
Strengths: Powerful.
Weakness: None.
This KitchenAid mixer is an excellent investment! I just love mine! The dough hook attachment is the greatest invention ever. No more kneading! I used this wonderful machine to make 4 pounds of Pizza Geina dough without breaking a sweat. Add your ingredients, turn it on and it does the rest! It has a very powerful motor and every part of this mixer is excellent quality and well made. It is simple...
Strengths: Fast, convenient and easy clean.
Weakness: Sometime the bowl is hard to be removed.
My wife likes this mixer very much. She was encouraged by this powerful machine. We have home-made pasta, pizza and pie everyday. Especially, it can also make oriental food, such as steam buns, dumplings and many more.
Strengths: Durable and dependable, a must-have for all home cooks!
Weakness: Absolutely none.
KitchenAid is well-known for its stand mixers. They are made of the highest quality and craftsmanship. Having an electric stand mixer will save you so much time and effort in mixing heavy dough, and other baking tasks. You can set the KitchenAid to stir, and you just add the ingredients, instead of constantly having to stop to stir. This can make cooking and baking so much simpler, and more...
Strengths: This is a beautiful machine - (I purchased the chrome one). It works wonderfully. While some say it is too loud, I don't find the sound level objectionable.
Weakness: It is heavy. I have the counter space to let it set out, which I think is a must unless you have a strong arm around to help you set it up.
This is not a toy. It is a serious piece of equipment that can be useful for so many things. This week was the first of many bake sales I am to participate in, and it helped me expedite the preparation of the cakes, pies, and cookies. I am familiar with fine machinery, and this is well made. It is nothing like the flimsy hand held types or cheaper stand mixers. I could have bought it for $50 less...
Strengths: Powerful, steady footprint, consistent mixes.
Weakness: Noisy
This mixer has 10 speeds and comes with various attachments for mixing or beating. If mixes have a moderate amount of moisture, the beating tool works fine. However, for relatively dry mixes such as high flour content or bread mixes, my favorite is the flat attachment which is actually made of ceramic and looks like a flat triangular frame with some lines running through. I usually start off with...
Strengths: Powerful,Sleek Looking
Weakness: A little Heavy
Bought this for the wife, as she's been wanting one for awhile.Uses it all the time and absolutely loves it even though she says its a bit on the heavy side.
Strengths: Powerful, durable, looks good
Weakness: Too heavy
We bought this product since we always believe in the quality of KitchenAid. My wife has been using kitchenAid manual mixer for a while. However, it takes a lot of patience to stir up the egg white. With the stand mixer, she no longer need to stand all the way to hold the mixer and she is extremly happy. This machine is really a life saver and we decide to buy the pasta add-on. We will see how it...
Strengths: Heavy, Solid Kitchen Tool-Easy Exchange if it ceases to Function w/in a Year
Weakness: Heavy if you Have to Move it Around. Plastic Cover that holds metal gears in place.
I bought another from Kitchenaid showing I do like and trust this product/name. What I don't like is (and maybe they have redesigned by now, (Oct 2007) I don't know) the metal gears inside are held in their place by a plastic cover! This is/was true with the Professional 6 Quart Series as well as the Artisan 5 Quart. If anything is going to mess up, it will be in this area. Kitchenaid is quick to...

A money saving tip ....
Strengths: Power and ease
Weakness: A tad heavy, but I don't know how you could get this much power any lighter.
KitchenAid has an Ebay store where they sell refurbished and many new items. I have wanted one of these mixers _forever_, but the price was just to prohibitive. Through the Ebay store I got a brand new mixer in discontinued color (plum) with 1 year warranty (I think the refurbished ones have month warranty) for $175 + $30 shipping. Plus I had a $10 coupon from Ebay and found a $30 rebate, so for...
