Inverter Technology applies the microwave energy differently from prior methodology. The energy is distributed more evenly so you don't get hot and not so hot spots. It's benefit has been immediately apparent, especially in defrosting. The center is defrosted while the outside is not partially cooked.

Every thing else is what one would expect from a contemporary, full featured, powerful (1250 watt) microwave oven.

The ONLY possible improvement I can think of would be if they somehow illuminated the key pad.

It's a great microwave.

This beautiful black microwave oven from Panasonic is packed with several nice features: (i) more uniform heating prevents dried up edges, (ii) smart sensor cooking enables it to automatically calculate power level and heating time (nice for frozen entrees), (iii) convenient turbo defrost feature, and (iv) has lots of space for heating larger servings. I considered several models from Panasonic, Samsung and Sharp before settling on this; for the price, this microwave has lots of convenient features.

Panosonic Model NN-H765BF Microwave

Strengths: Loaded with features, including turbo defrost (just enter item's weight), sensor cooking (automatic calculation of power level and cooking time), and keep warm feature.

Weakness: None

After considering size, power and cost, I selected Panasonic primarily because of its inverter technology, which provides lower level continuous power instead of on/off power when heating foods at less than full power. The result is evenly cooked foods rather than foods with overdone edges and underdone portions in the center.

Great bang-for-the-buck microwave.

Strengths: Auto-cook and reheat functions, ability to program cooking routines, sound scheme choice.

Weakness: Annoying power-level setting scheme, sometimes tricky to figure out when the "auto" features will work.

Got this to replace an old unit whose rotating tray had finally given up the ghost, and took the advice of my brother and sis-in-law who had a slightly older but very similar model. This gets the job done, and usually quite easily. This gets the job done, and usually quite easily. Sound shcemes can be adjusted (so that 2 a.m. burrito can be heated up without an 85dB beep at the end of the heating cycle), and a number of other options to customize presentatio and defaults do generally make use a snap.

The exception is the programming scheme: instead of hitting a "power level" button followed by a number key to give a % of power, on this model you HAVE to keep pressing the "power level" button as the power level then decreases by 10% with each push... Makes setting it to 30% for a manual thaw take 8 putton pushes just to get the power level right, which is a practical design nightmake in my book.

The auto-defrost function, however, works quite well. The warm-up does a good job so long as you have a fairly consistent-density food that produces steam and isn't totally covered (this microwave uses a steam sensor to guage its auto features). Aso, all other things equal, the auto reheat function will do a much better job getting a plate of food heated correctly than exactly the same food if it's in a bowl. It's easy to get used to, but it does seem like the steam sensor could have been better implemented if small changes in vessel shape can dramatically alter the auto-function's success. (Similar caveats apply to auto cook function, especially for frozen dinners).

A decent microwave overall -- one you've spent a day or two learning its quirks, its overall convenince level becomes really quite good.
